The oldest board game invented in China more than 4500 years ago.

The Oldest Weiqi Records
It comes from the 《忘忧清乐集》 of the Song Dynasty (1100 AD.), which is the earliest Weiqi record found in the world.
7th Century
During the Tang Dynasty, Weiqi developed rapidly. The post Professional Weiqi Player (棋待诏) was established.
Wang Jixian, who was the first national player in the reign of Kaiyuan(713-741 AD.), summed up The Ten Golden Rules List, which is regarded as the classic theory of Weiqi.

Spread to Japan
Weiqi was introduced to Japan in the Tang Dynasty. At that time, there were many Japanese students in Chang’an. They learnt all kinds of advanced knowledge in China, including Weiqi.

18th Century
Danghu Shiju(当湖十局) was a game of thirteen consecutive games in between Fan Xiping(范西屏) and Shi Xiangxia(施襄夏) at Danghu Lake in the1739.
Ten games of the game still exist.
